So Called "Healthy" Breakfasts
We don’t preach at people – eating low carb is our choice and we understand it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but sometimes it’s hard to keep our voice in, especially when trusted bodies are dishing out (no pun intended) advice on healthy breakfast recipes that are packed with sugar. Take a look at some of the best (or worst!) recipes we found online that nearly brought us to a meltdown.
1 : Apple Pie Porridge
The Low Down
They say: a warm and comforting porridge at only 345 calories per adult serving. This recipe includes 50g porridge oats, 200ml apple juice, 100ml semi skimmed milk, 1 dessert apple and a pinch of cinnamon.
Our Breakdown
Portion control has really gone out of the window on this one. This ‘healthy’ breakfast has a massive 56g carbs and 24.7g sugar, but thumbs up for the cinnamon…

2 : Green Smoothie
The Low Down
They say: a great portable introduction to breakfast, is quite sweet and fruity, and provides one of your five a day. Blend tinned mango slices, tinned peach slices, frozen spinach, a banana and water.
Our Breakdown
We can’t knock the spinach, but the tinned fruits are sweets in disguise! One serving of this smoothie has 35.2g carbs and 29.2g sugar. Wow, we’ll give it a miss thanks.

3 : Banana Porridge & Blueberries
The Low Down
They say: for a healthier alternative to sugar or honey, use a very ripe banana mashed into the porridge for added sweetness…add oats, dried berries and semi skimmed milk.
Our Breakdown
Dried berries AND an over ripe banana means this ‘healthy’ breakfast whacks your body with 36.6g of carbs and a huge 30.7g of sugar per portion! Ouch.
